On June 17, the Lowering Broadband Costs for Consumers Act was introduced in the House by Representatives Randy Feenstra (R-IA) and Teresa Leger Fernández (D-NM). The legislation would require edge providers such as Amazon.com, Inc., Google LLC, Meta Platforms, Inc.’s Facebook, Microsoft Corp., Apple Inc., and Netflix, Inc. to contribute to the Universal Service Fund. The House bill mirrors the Lowering Broadband Costs for Consumers Act of 2025 (S. 1651), which was introduced by Senators Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Mike Crapo (R-ID), and Kevin Cramer (R-ND) in May.
