The FCC has adopted an Order requiring wireless providers to implement georouting solutions for 988 text messages, ensuring they are directed to local crisis centers based on the geographic location of the text’s origin rather than the area code.  The Commission has set compliance deadlines, requiring nationwide providers to implement these capabilities within 18 months and non-nationwide providers within 36 months from the effective date, which has not been set yet.  The Commission previously adopted rules requiring wireless providers to implement georouting solutions for 988 calls.  The decision was approved by Chairman Carr and Commissioners Gomez and Trusty, who also issued separate statements.
