The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued a Public Notice amending the tasks assigned to its advisory committee, the Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council IX (CSRIC IX).  This amendment focuses on ensuring consumer access to 911 services across all available networks as technology evolves.  Specifically, the new task requires CSRIC IX to discuss, in its report, Public Safety Answering Points’ (PSAPs) needs concerning class-of-service (CoS) categories, aiming to reconcile current CoS designations with expanding backup network options.  Additionally, CSRIC IX will be required to consider any technical changes required for PSAPs to display and process new CoS designations and provide recommendations for implementation.  The FCC expects a second report from CSRIC IX in March 2026, which should include findings from this expanded inquiry.
