FCC Chair Brendan Carr has announced nine items for the FCC’s next open meeting on October 28th. Accordingly, the FCC plans to consider the following:
(1) A proposal to modernize satellite licensing by streamlining licensing processes and establishing processing timelines.
(2) A proposal to enhance UMFUS spectrum use by reworking Earth Station licensing rules.
(3) An order to close loopholes in the sale or import of equipment on the FCC’s Covered List, prohibiting equipment that has any component part found on the Covered List and enabling the FCC to target the import or sale of certain Covered List equipment.
(4) A proposal to evaluate ways to speed the transition to all-IP interconnection for voice services pursuant to Section 251 of the Communications Act.
(5) A proposal to review the FCC’s 2022 broadband nutrition labels.
(6) A proposal to address robocalls, giving consumers more tools to understand when calls are scams.
(7) An order and proposal on the FCC’s 2024 incarcerated people’s communications services (IPCS) order to ensure that FCC regulations comply the Martha Wright-Reed Act.
(8) A Delete, Delete, Delete proceeding that will eliminate some market aggregation limits, obsolete maritime systems rules, and decades-old requirements for licenses.
(9) A proposal to speed up the transition to next-gen TV standard ATSC 3.0.
