FCC Chairman Brendan Carr announced that the FCC will consider a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) at next month’s Open Commission Meeting to initiate a proceeding to strengthen enforcement against illegal robocalls. If adopted, the rules would remove voice service providers from U.S. networks that enable robocalls through proposed enhanced “know-your-upstream-provider” requirements, and would raise the standards for how voice service providers apply STIR/SHAKEN attestations.
