The White House and the Department of Defense on Monday announced a plan to free up for wireless broadband and 5G uses spectrum in the 3450-3550 MHz band that currently is used by the military. The White House indicated that it began collaborating with the Defense Department earlier this year to identify 100 megahertz of contiguous wireless spectrum that could be shared among military and commercial users. The FCC is expected to begin ramping up for an auction to be held late next year around December 2021 so that commercial licensees can start deploying sometime in 2022.
