TracFone Wants Text Messaging to Count as Usage of Lifeline Service

TracFone Wireless, Inc. (TracFone) has filed a petition requesting that the FCC amend its Lifeline rules to allow the sending and receiving of text messages to count as usage of a Lifeline service.  TracFone also requests an interim waiver to allow its customers to demonstrate their intent to use their Lifeline service via text messaging pending adoption of the proposed rule amendment.  Comments on TracFone’s petition are due on or before December 1, 2014, and reply comments are due December 16, 2014.
