The NTIA’s Office of Public Safety Communications (OPSC) released a report on the costs remaining to complete the nationwide transition from legacy 911 to IP-based Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) systems. This report helps with national-level planning, coordination, and oversight of the NG911 transition and outlines the methodology the agency used to estimate NG911 implementation costs. Overall, the estimated remaining costs for the nationwide transition to NG911 is between $5.8 billion and $9.27 billion, a reduction of 30 to 40 percent since the last estimate in 2018. The reduction in the overall cost for national NG911 implementation reflects the upfront work and investments that states and localities have made toward nationwide NG911 implementation.
