The FCC adopted a Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (FNPRM) aimed at streamlining the Broadband Data Collection (BDC) framework. The Order: (1) aligns reporting requirements for broadband availability and subscription data; (2) eliminates the requirement that providers be notified of and allowed to respond to Broadband Serviceable Location Fabric (Fabric) challenges during the Fabric development cycle; and (3) simplifies verification and audit processes.
The FNPRM seeks comment on various approaches to simplify and streamline coverage restoration process, eliminating requirements to submit “grandfathered” data, and establishing voluntary best practices for data retention, mobile verification, and audit procedures. Comment and reply comment dates for the FNPRM have not yet been announced.
