President Donald Trump has nominated Danielle Thumann Severs, a senior adviser to Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr, to fill an open Republican seat at the agency. Thumann Severs, who currently serves as Carr’s senior counsel, has advised on wireline, public safety and consumer affairs issues and previously worked as a senior attorney at telecom infrastructure company Crown Castle.
If confirmed by the Senate, Thumann Severs would occupy the seat formerly held by Republican Commissioner Nathan Simington for a term dating back to July 1, 2024, giving Carr a reliable Republican vote as he pursues his agenda. The nomination comes as the FCC continues to operate below its full five-member capacity, with Carr, Republican Olivia Trusty and Democrat Anna Gomez currently serving.
