“CAF Accountability Act” Introduced in Congress

Representative Doug Collins (R-GA) has introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives a bill that would ensure broadband accountability and oversight, specifically with respect to the Connect America Fund (CAF). Specifically, the Connect America Fund (CAF) Accountability Act of 2019 (HR.427) would: (1) increase accountability by requiring CAF recipients to include additional information in their quarterly report to the FCC; (2) increase oversight by increasing accuracy of the quarterly reports; and (3) protect consumers by ensuring CAF funds are being used as intended, so that rural and underserved areas will have increased access to reliable broadband. HR.427 has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce for further deliberation.
