The FCC has adopted a Notice of Inquiry seeking comment on how artificial intelligence impacts illegal and unwanted robocalls and robotexts.  The FCC is considering both the benefits that AI analytics tools could bring to blocking illegal robocalls and robotexts as well as the opportunity that AI presents to allow bad actors to more easily defraud consumers through calls and text messages such as mimicking voices of trusted sources.

The FCC also seeks comment on how it should define AI in the robocall and robotext context and how the emergence of AI technologies could impact consumer privacy rights under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

Comments are due December 18, 2023 and reply comments are due January 16, 2024.
