FCC Adopts Process to Share Communications Outage Information

Through a Second Report and Order, the FCC has adopted a framework to share information concerning communication outages, with state, federal, and Tribal nation agencies — particularly following disasters including hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wildfires, and severe winter storms.  In hopes of assisting government agencies restore communications during an outage and first responders answering to crises, the FCC will now directly communicate with agencies to send timely information collected through its Network Outage Reporting System (NORS) and Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS).
