The FCC’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau and Office of Engineering and Technology have announced that they have conditionally approved four entities to serve as Environmental Sensing Capability (ESC) operators in the 3550-3700 MHz band (3.5 GHz Band).  The four entities include CommScope; Federated Wireless, Inc.; Google, Inc.; and Key Bridge Wireless LLC.  ESCs are designed to detect the presence of federal incumbent radar transmissions in a portion of the 3.5 GHz Band and communicate this information to Spectrum Access Systems that will assign spectrum within the band and coordinate access among band users to prevent interference. The four conditionally approved ESC operators remain subject to testing and further deployment plan review before receiving final certification.
