The FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau (Bureau) has opened a new proceeding to select the entity that will serve as the next Local Number Portability Administrator (LNPA) at the conclusion of the contract with iconectiv, LLC (iconectiv), the current LNPA.  The LNPA plays a crucial role in the management of FCC local number portability processes, which enable consumers to maintain their current phone numbers when they change providers.  North American Portability Management, LLC (NAPM), an industry consortium, contracts with the LNPA, and provides oversight and management of the numbering administration process.  If NAPM elects a one-year contract extension option available to it, the current contract held by iconectiv will terminate on May 25, 2025.

The Bureau is seeking comment on the LNPA selection process and on the extension of the present LNPA contract held by iconectiv.  NAPM and iconectiv have proposed an extension of their current contract until May 2031, with two potential additional option years.  Additionally, NAPM and iconectiv have proposed several contractual amendments that would apply during the extension period. Comments are due on October 31 and reply comments are due on November 14.
