FCC Proposes to Apply Caller ID Authentication Standards to Text Messaging

The FCC has released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking proposing to apply its caller ID authentication standards to text messaging and require providers to find and actively block illegal texts before received by consumers.  The NPRM also seeks comment on other actions the Commission may take to combat illegal texts, including consumer education.

Comments will be due 30 days after Federal Register publication, which has not yet occurred, and reply comments will be due 45 days after Federal Register publication.
