A notice has been published in the Federal Register, announcing that certain provisions of the FCC’s 2023 Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) Order will take effect June 5, 2028. The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau is requiring commercial mobile service providers who participate in WEA to support multilingual templates for the most commonly issued and most time-sensitive types of alerts in English, the next thirteen most commonly spoken languages in the U.S., and American Sign Language (ASL).
