On May 18, 2014, AT&T Inc. (AT&T) and DIRECTV announced they had reached an agreement under which AT&T would acquire DIRECTV. While the parties have not yet filed an FCC application covering the transaction, the FCC has opened a docket, MB Docket No. 14-90, in order to establish the ex parte status of discussions between the public and FCC staff regarding the proposed transaction.  Anyone who speaks with FCC staff about the proposed merger is required to file a summary of the discussion in this docket. Once the appropriate applications have been accepted for filing, the FCC will issue a Public Notice establishing a comment cycle for those applications.
