The FCC adopted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) aimed at ensuring that the FCC’s accessibility rules account for advances in technology and promote accessible innovation. The NPRM seeks comment on marketplace barriers that impede accessibility and opportunities for improving communications accessibility and usability. The NPRM seeks comment on how the Commission can: (1) encourage accessible design early in product development; (2) identify and remove marketplace barriers that prevent new accessibility solutions from emerging; (3) remove barriers to One Device and One Number solutions for persons with disabilities; (4) improve the accessibility of multifactor authentication; (5) increase the accessibility of customer service and the use of Direct Video Calling; and (6) streamline rules that may be duplicative or outdated to better support efficient compliance and innovation.
