The FCC’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (Bureau) has released for comment a Petition for Waiver requesting a rule waiver and extension that would give all 3.65 GHz licensees more time to transition to the 3.5 GHz Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS).  The petition, filed by the Wireless Internet Service Provider Association (WISPA) and the Utilities Technology Council (UTC), asks the FCC to push the transition deadline for all 3.65 GHz licensees to January 8, 2023.  Under the current rules, CBRS protection for 3.65 GHz grandfathered wireless protection zones ends as of April 17, 2020.  Comments on the WISPA/UTC petition are due by December 12, 2018 and reply comments by December 24, 2018.
