The FCC announced a record-breaking near $300 million fine for auto warranty scam robocalls made by the largest illegal robocalling operation the FCC has ever investigated.  An international network of companies violated FCC regulations and federal statutes by making more than five billion robocalls to more than 500 million phone numbers during a three-month span in 2021.  Last year, the FCC directed all U.S.-based voice service providers to stop carrying traffic from certain members of the enterprise, and as a result the robocalls dropped by 99 percent.  The Commission proposed a fine and offered the parties a chance to respond, but there was no response, which resulted in this record-breaking penalty.

The FCC’s Robocall Response Team also announced new robocall investigation partnerships with the Attorney General of Hawaii and New Mexico, making forty-six states, the District of Columbia, and Guam now partnered with the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau to combat illegal robocall campaigns.
