Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau Announces Nationwide Tests of EAS and WEA

The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau has announced to all Emergency Alert System participants, participating Commercial Mobile Service providers, and the public that FEMA will conduct nationwide tests of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts on October 4, 2023, with a backup date of October 11, 2023.  FEMA will initiate the test at approximately 2:18 pm EDT using the National Alert classification of Alert Message.  All wireless providers that participate in WEA are required to participate in the test.  All EAS participants are required to participate in the test and make required filings in the FCC’s EAS Test Reporting System.  ETRS forms will become available at the time of the nationwide test and can be accessed on the FCC’s website.
