The Federal Communications Commission’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau has issued a Public Notice reminding commercial mobile radio service (CMRS) providers of the January 18, 2016 deadline applicable to CMRS providers that deploy network-based E911 location accuracy technologies.  By that date, CMRS such carriers must meet the following location accuracy standard for outdoor 911 calls: (1) 100 meters for 67 percent of calls, in 100 percent of counties or PSAP service areas covered by the CMRS provider across its entire network; and (2) 300 meters for 90 percent of calls, in 70 percent of counties or PSAP service areas, which must cover at least 80 percent of the population covered by the CMRS provider across its entire network.
