The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC or Commission) Wireline Competition Bureau (WCB or Bureau) has released two Public Notices related to caller ID authentication.  One of the public notices seeks comment on the North American Numbering Council (NANC) Report recommending best practices related to caller ID authentication.  The Bureau had directed a working group of the NANC, on February 27, 2020, to recommend a set of best practices pursuant to the Pallone-Thune Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act.

In a separate public notice, the Bureau seeks comment on the extent to which providers of voice service have implemented caller ID authentication frameworks in the IP and non-IP portions of their networks and on the efficiency of those frameworks in addressing issues presented by caller ID authentication.  These comments will aid the Bureau in preparing a report to Congress that is required by the TRACED Act.

Comments for both notices are due on October 16, 2020 and reply comments for both notices are due on October 26, 2020.
