FCC Releases Data on Voice Telephone and Internet Access Services

The FCC has released two reports on the status of voice and internet services based on information collected by the FCC Form 477.  The first report, Voice Telephone Services: Status as of December 31, 2024, shows that there were 16 million active end-user switched access lines, 64 million interconnected VoIP subscriptions, and 391 million mobile subscriptions in December 2024.  The second report, Internet Access Services: Status as of December 31, 2024, shows that there were 419 million mobile internet connections and 135 million fixed internet connections in December 2024.  Overall, the reports highlight a few basic connectivity trends: (1) over the past few years mobile voice subscriptions are increasing while VoIP subscriptions have decreased slightly, and traditional voice services have decreased by an average rate of 17.8% per year; (2) fixed and mobile internet connections are growing steadily each year; and (3) internet speeds are increasing.
