The co-founder of stock trading platform Robinhood Baiju Bhatt’s Cowboy Space has filed an application with the FCC’s Space Bureau to launch an non-geostationary orbit (“NGSO”) constellation called Stampede to provide data center services from space. This constellation aims to harness power from the sun, instead of terrestrial resources, to power an AI data center. Seeking fast deployment, the application requests waiver of several FCC rules to avoid application processing rounds, forego securing surety bonds, conduct limited telemetry, tracking, and command (“TT&C”) operations in the 18.8-19.3 GHz and 28.6-29.1 GHz bands, and deploy without certain technical showings.
