FCC Pauses Phase-Out of Voice-Only Lifeline Support

In an Order, the FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau paused until December 1, 2027, both the implementation of the phase-out of Lifeline program support for voice-only services and changes to the Lifeline minimum service standards. In determining that good cause exists for waiver, the FCC cited the fact that it is considering a comprehensive review of the Lifeline program as outlined in its February 2026 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking.
