The Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (collectively “Bureaus”) issued a Public Notice announcing a temporary filing freeze on the acceptance and processing of applications for 5.9 GHz band spectrum, specifically 5.850-5.895 MHz and 5.905-5.925 MHz spectrum. This temporary freeze is effective December 19, 2019. The Bureaus follow Commission action that was taken on December 17, 2019, in a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, that proposed to reallocate some of the 5.9 GHz spectrum from Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) use to Cellular Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X) operations. Imposition of the freeze is procedural and thus not subject to notice or comment.
