The FCC has released a consumer alert, warning consumers to be on high alert for bank impersonation scams, in which scammers call or text consumers with “fraud alerts” that require consumers to authenticate bank account and personal information. Recognizing these threats, the FCC reminds consumers that it is working to end scam calls by (1) expanding know-your-customer and know-your-upstream provider requirements, (2) restricting “bad actors’” access to phone numbers, (3) ensuring all voice service providers are doing their part to identify and block bad traffic, and (4) providing consumers with more information on inbound calls.
