The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC or Commission) Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, and Wireline Competition Bureau (Bureaus) have granted members of the Competitive Carriers Association (CCA) a temporary, limited waiver of the Commission’s requirements to support text telephony (TTY) technology on wireless networks to the extent that they use Internet Protocol (IP) technologies. This waiver expires December 31, 2017, or upon the effective date of Commission rules providing for alternative IP-based wireless accessibility solutions, whichever is earlier. The Bureaus directed individual CCA members that wish to avail themselves of the waiver to identify themselves to the Commission, and to affirm their awareness of the commitments made on their behalf by CCA, by July 19.
